Description
The Vinicunca Mountain, also known as the Mountain of Seven Colors or the Rainbow Mountain, is a spectacular tourist destination located in the Peruvian Andes, near the city of Cusco. Its name in Quechua means: “wini” means stones, and “kunka” means neck, referring to the particular shape of the summit.
The most distinctive feature of Vinicunca is its impressive variety of colors, ranging from reds and greens to blues and yellows, forming horizontal stripes on the slopes of the mountain. These colors are due to the unique mineralogical composition of the region, where diverse minerals such as copper, sulfur and iron are found.
The ascent to the top of Vinicunca can be challenging due to the altitude and the slope, but once you arrive, the panoramic view is simply spectacular. From there, you can admire not only the vibrant colors of the mountain itself, but also the majestic views of the snow-capped peaks of the Andes and the surrounding valleys.
Day 1: 7 Colors Mountain
At 04:30 a.m. we will pick you up at your hotel, and then we will start our trip following a paved road towards the town of Cusipata. Then, we will enter by a branch of trocha carro sable until arriving to the locality of Paucarpata, place where we will enjoy our breakfast. After breakfast we will continue our journey to Qomer Qocha, there you will have a reasonable time to get ready, also our tour guide will give you recommendations prior to the walk. The walking tour has an average duration of 1 hour, with a MEDIUM degree of difficulty whose route requires an acceptable physical condition, since the arrival point of Vinicunca has an altitude of 5,200 meters above sea level.
Arriving at the mountain you will have an ideal time to take pictures of the memory; then return to Qomer Qocha, there we will board our vehicle that will take us to the restaurant to have lunch for the day, and after a short rest we will return to the city of Cusco, this tour ends at 05:00 p.m. approximately. End of service.
